WEEKLY COGWHEELS #1 (feat. Victor Ark)

Welcome to the first instalment of Weekly Cogwheels! Here we are going to put together our thoughts about new comic books, and form one post with mini-reviews.

Well, originally, we were planning to release it on Monday, but due to my uncanny ability to screw any deadline… here we are. Now, we will be talking about different comics that were released on the 20th of August. My friend Victor Ark joined me today to discuss Magneto and Life After, while I shared my thoughts on Original Sins, All-New Ghost Rider and also criticised last issue of The Wicked + The Divine a little bit. I will also write about Multiversity #1 some other time. There were other books that are worth mentioning, such as Ms. Marvel, Secret Avengers, Dark Horse Presents, Trees, etc. We just did not have place to discuss them this time.

COGREVIEW — Hawkeye #19

Spoilers ahead! You've been warned.

Multimedia products, such as movies, books, comics, are desperate for public’s attention and with each year acquire new features. 3D-movies and animated comics are results of technological progress, but, at the same time, serve as representations of authors’ inability to deliver information within traditional formats. And these products require to put into use new senses to perceive the material.

Hawkeye #19 steps into another direction and invests into the idea of comics visual comprehension only. Sadly, there are people, which are stripped off the opportunity to sense audio-content, therefore, books and comics become the most convenient format for their data collection.

Welcome to COG!

Welcome to COG - blog dedicated to comics, where we will be working on a critical reviewing of comic books from different positions. We are aiming to raise the level of involvement in the comics-culture in both Russian-speaking and English-speaking communities, and enrich the Russian-speaking comic criticism scene, which is currently residing at a low level, to be honest. My personal goal is to advance my writing skills and to understand comics better. That’s a win-win situation for everyone!

Oh, right, my name is Andrew Stroke and this is my personal blog. However, I am planning to invite guest reviewers from time to time. I do know English, though it is not my native language - any kind of mistakes correction would be appreciated.

COG is available in two languages - Russian and English. In the majority of articles, you will find a button to translate them.

We’ll see, how it will work out.

Columns of our blog:

COG REVIEWS - reviewing series/singles/arcs in details.

Weekly Cogwheels - weekly reviews of new comics, that usually come out on Wednesdays.

…and some others, which we will pick on the way.

It’s easy to follow COG at different social networks:
